Traumatic injury is a term which refers to physical injuries of sudden onset and severity which require immediate medical attention. The insult may cause systemic shock called “shock trauma”, and may require immediate resuscitation and interventions to save life and limb.
Trauma is how the mind responds to mental injury. Mental trauma involves painful feelings and frightening thoughts invoked by witnessing or experiencing a traumatic event. While most people process and deal with these feelings after a short time, some people are unable to do so.
-Shock, denial, or disbelief.
-Confusion, difficulty concentrating.
-Anger, irritability, mood swings.
-Anxiety and fear.
-Guilt, shame, self-blame.
-Withdrawing from others.
-Feeling sad or hopeless.
-Feeling disconnected or numb.
